The Australian Minister for Immigration and Border Protection Peter Dutton met with the Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Sen and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for the Interior Sar Kheng in Phnom Penh today.
The meetings reinforced the commitment of both nations to the successful implementation of the resettlement arrangements for refugees from Nauru.
Mr Dutton thanked the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister for the warmth of their reception and their leadership and commitment on this issue.
Both the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister committed to facilitating further resettlement of refugees from Nauru who have expressed interest in moving to Cambodia and to measures to accelerate the integration of refugees into Cambodian society.
Australia and Cambodia have worked closely since signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) last year.
Mr Dutton will also hold discussions with the Director-General of Cambodia’s Department of Immigration and the International Organisation for Migration's Chief of Mission in Cambodia.
